BOOKS

Royalty Free Stock Image

Sprung from the trunks of trees
Stripped of bark and set with marks
Writ to last-- past seasons, beyond the breeze
Books conceived, delivered, make us free.

The roots of each are in the ground
Given to man at his birth
The right to know, to learn are found
Tucked in the leaves once earthbound

From Latin roots we form the words
that frame ideas from 'round the world
libri - the book that forms a fate
liber - the freedom that comes from that

Take up freedom from your library
Learn to read, read aloud --
Those who can't, risk poverty,
Those who can -- hear poetry.

  5. Thanks y'all this is for day 9 of NaPoWriMo and the prompt was reading. This is what I came up with. I wondered if the roots for libris and liber were the same but it turns out all the way back to the beginning they were similar but not the same; yet to me reading and freedom are irrevocably linked. Thus the poem such that it is. Thanks for your kinds words!
